Sequanorum is Latin for the place where the Sequanes lived. Before the Roman conquest the Sequanes were one of the most important of the peoples in Gaul. They lived in what are now the French Departments of Franche-Comté, the Jura, and the southern part of Alsace. Under the Romans, their territory was more or less the same, though without Alsace. The capitol was at Besançon.
