Nyon Place du Chateau
The present château (castle) was built on the foundations of an 11th century building, which itself was built on older foundations. It has had many owners since: the Bishop of Besançon, the Lord of Prangins, the Counts of Savoy, who added the round towers, the Bernese, who added the square tower in 1572. It has been the property of the City of Nyon since 1804 (when the town purchased it for 30,006 francs. It has recently undergone a 6 year renovation, to its 16th century style.

On this map, the grey lines mark the main Roman streets, and the red shows archaeological finds from the Roman period. Both run "into" the present château.
